The Alternative Social Detox | Who You Should Follow
It's the new year. It's time to get your affairs in order.
The term 'digital detox' is thrown around a lot, and is used in reference to taking a break from social media. But as a blogger, it's pretty hard to take a break from social media, unless we're all doing it.
This is why the Christmas holidays were very much needed. We all seem to have taken a much deserved break and come back with a whirlwind of creative ideas that we're ready to apply.
But let's just stop and think for a minute. With Instagram algorithm ruining most of our lives, I feel like we should think about the people we engage with most on Instagram.
I only follow around 500 people on Instagram, and even with such a small number, I still don't see my favourite bloggers content.
With this knowledge, I'm taking it upon myself to have a social detox. I'm going to be brutal and unfollow those people who don't provide anything new with their content. The ones that don't engage. Because for me, engagement is key. I have some really good days on Instagram. But on other days, all my followers may as well be ghosts.
We all have those 'Instagram unfollower' apps and by unfollowing a lot of people, I know in turn I'm going to be losing a lot of followers. However, I feel that if someone really enjoyed my content, it shouldn't be a 'follow for follow' kind of scenario. I only want people to follow me who enjoy my content, who want to engage with me, who want to see what I'm up to, and most importantly - people who actually care.
With that in mind, there are a few people who I would always stay loyal to on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
If you're feeling completely uninspired by your Instagram timeline, then take my word for it and follow these people:
So that's it from me. I'm off to have a much needed Instagram clearout. Let me know in the comments who your favourite people to follow are!
