Tried & Tested: Balmain Hair Extensions
The Balmain Système Volume extensions add effortless volume to every desired hairstyle. Adding these extensions to your hair can save endless amounts of time and a lot of effort.
The extensions, called Volume+ come in two types: Cheveux Fins, for fine hair and Cheveux Normaux for normal hair.
I was given the opportunity to try and test out the Cheveux Normaux extensions. The lovely ladies at Balmain organised for me to go to a wonderful hair salon in Surrey called The Academy. Here, I had the Volume+ extensions fitted and blended to match my hair.
The Academy Salons are situated in Surrey and have 3 in total. These are in Hersham, Cobham and Claygate which are all fairly close to each other and only half an hour from London. I attended the Cobham salon which was incredibly spacious and full of the highest quality products and services. The extensive product list covered two whole walls in the reception and the salon itself is laid out over three floors, providing both hair and beauty treatments.
My stylist, Meryl Thompson, a stylists of 20 years with a tonne of experience under her belt, was on of the best hair stylists I've met to date. Her humble attitude and attention to detail made the experience so enjoyable.
As you can see, my hair was very thin. I have a lot of hair but it's very thin, especially in the front, which makes it really hard to style. I wanted to get the extensions to add a lot of volume to my hair so on lazy days I don't need to do much to make it look acceptable, and on good days I can style it without spending hours spraying cans upon cans of hairspray only for it go straight after 5 minutes.
Meryl started the process by ridding my hair of any other products using the Balmain hair shampoo and conditioner.
She then rough dried my hair and started the application. Balmain uses a system that makes applying the extensions so quick and easy, and pretty foolproof; you thread the extensions into the applicator and then add small sections of hair. The applicator is then clipped into place and the bonds are heated up for 40 seconds.
The bonds are super small, which don't damage your natural hair in any way and are practically invisible. Most clients only require 2 boxes of hair but Balmain kindly provided 3 boxes to fulfil an even more voluminous look. This part of the process only took around half an hour and was painless.
Meryl finished my new look by cutting into the extensions making them completely blend with my current hair as well as curling my hair (which lasted two days - my natural hair usually lasts around 2 hours). I feel like one of the reasons extensions have a bad name is because people don't blend them in well enough and it is obvious that they have extensions in. However, thanks to Meryl and Balmain, the extensions look just like my own hair, adding more definition and tones to the look.
I have since washed and styled my hair and couldn't be happier with the results. For the first month, the hair dries into a natural beach wave which provides an effortless finish for those who are on the go. Balmain also gave me the best after care set; The Cosmétique Nutrition Intense which contains a shampoo, conditioner, blow drying spray and special extensions hairbrush. All these pieces combined provide assistance in maintaining the quality of the hair extensions as well as stimulating your own hair to grow and create 10% more volume.
The whole process (hair, application, styling) costs £675 because a box of hair bought from the salon costs £225. You can book online at The Academy or call for a consultation on 01932 864 929 If you wish to buy any of the Balmain products then be sure to check their extensive site 'Balmain Hair', there are even temporary alternatives such as clip-in extensions or clip-on hair pieces. The possibilities are endless when it comes to Balmain.
Overall, I couldn't be more happier with my new hair. A huge thank you to Balmain, Julie Allen, Meryl - and The Academy. Look out for some hairstyling posts with my new locks!
