On Friday the 13th December Naked Fashions were invited to attend the ‘fashion revolution’ event hosted by TopBuyer and the China-UK fashion league. The event was designed to showcase new designers and provide them with a platform to meet buyers and publicise their work, and also to accommodate a networking opportunity for people ‘in fashion’ more generally.
The event far surpassed any expectations we had, and I was offered a lovely array of champagne and nibbles upon arrival. After a while of mingling, we all took our seats (front row!) to watch as the new designers present their collections. The show started with a brief talk from Anna Kong, the Director of Topbuyer, who explained her mission to empower the artists and designers and provide them with a platform to showcase their work.
The designs were gorgeous to say the least, and a real mixture of garments were shown. There was everything from Alexander Wang esq monochrome and structured tailoring to brightly coloured prints inspired by burning car bonnets (yes really!).
Among the designers was Anne-Lina Dingsor- Uudelepp (seen here on the right), who said she based her designs on the London riots in 2011 and developed her prints from images of burning cars. It’s clear that prints are her signature, and she’s definitely one to watch. You can find her online at annelina.com.
The event also provided an opportunity to meet new talent even if they weren’t showcasing at the event and among the guests were the twins Nadia and Zehra and jewellery designer Cindy Zhang who recently had designs worn by Lady Gaga. The twins Nadia and Zehra work together on their fashion label, and their collection is all about bright colours, crazy patterns and different shapes. Check out their collection at nadiazehra.com.
Overall the event was a great success and beneficial for all that attended. It was a wonderful night and a big thank you to TopBuyer for inviting us!
