DIESEL; Bullet bag & Shibari boots

Diesel-Reboot In April of this year, Nicola Formichetti was confirmed as Diesel’s first artistic director and wow did he explode onto the scene with an almighty social media bang! If you didn’t know him before, Nicola is the man formerly responsible for the creation, design and look behind Lady Gaga. Now, unless you live under a rock, it is impossible not to have seen his face, his creativity and his message. Nicola was brought into the well-established brand Diesel to give it a second life and he did just that by creating the media phenomenon #dieselreboot.

This first project of Nicola Formichetti as artistic director of Diesel has been described as the beginning of a “full blown reinvention of one of the world’s most iconic brands” and who does he attest this reinvention to – you. It was a simple idea – all that he asked of you, the public, the soon-to-be new generation of Diesel ambassadors was to contribute. He created a space (dieselreboot.tumblr.com) which called all site users to post their inspiration, imagery, ideas, work and artwork and thus use it as a platform to steer the new direction of Diesel itself. The mastermind behind this also cleverly called and encouraged us to hashtag #dieselreboot on twitter, instagram, and vine essentially leaving the creative direction in the hands of, well, the world! And now Nicola Formichetti has done it again making his mark on his latest designs, the ‘Sexy Bullet’ bag and the Diesel ‘Shibari’ boots.

Part of Nicola Formichetti’s genius, is his ability to combine the ladylike with eroticism, underground and rock. Paying homage to the traditional “rock soul” roots of Diesel, the ‘Sexy Bullet’ bag, seen sported by Chloe Moretz and Georgia Jagger this week, remains sophisticated in design with it’s feminine and streamlined shape and yet is perfectly finished with bullet-style rivets staying true to the Diesel underground glam accessory.

The gorgeous Chloe Moretz and Iggy Azalea have both been seen sporting the iconic Diesel ‘Shibari’ boots as well this week. In Japanese, ‘Shibari’ literally translates as the ‘beauty of tight binding’ and is the inspiration for these incredible shoes and the whole SS14 Diesel footwear collection based on a traditional Japanese style of bondage. The sexy yet classic shape and design of the ‘Shibari’ boots have become synonymous with female power, expression and identity this season.
