Lingerie Uncovered; Getting Naked for Naked

IMG_040d3_Fotor_Collage It finally happened - I got naked for Naked Fashions! But at least I had a glass of champagne in my hand and to be fair, it was in the privacy of a plush fitting room in Selfridges on Oxford Street.

I was at Lingerie Uncovered, an event organised by the department store to celebrate women and the development of lingerie. Selfridges offers a vast array of designer lingerie and I was shown a beautiful collection of exquisite bras from Chantelle, Agent Provocateur and Myla by the Faye who took care of my fitting and despite me being partly naked (slightly awkward) was incredibly professional and kind.

The most important thing about a bra is that it’s firm (if your bra is riding up in the back, it’s too loose). There is also a difference between beauty bras and fit bras - if you’re looking for something racy for Christmas, go for Agent Provocateur, La Perla and Myla. These deluxe brands focus on beauty, offering amazing styles and shapes, however they are much smaller in size. Elle Macpherson, Chantelle and Simone Perele focus on fit and are shaped to make you look good naked while at the same time giving good support.

Selfridges had invited Anna Richardson, the TV presenter from Channel 4’s popular programs, The Sex Education Show and Secret Eaters. Anna held an inspirational speech, speaking of the importance of building a lingerie wardrobe.

She also interviewed three top designers including the glamorous Fifi Chachnil who has been in the lingerie business since 1996 and whose brand is stocked in 45 countries! Fifi, who exuded French class but with a quirky twist (and a pin-up style hair do), spoke of her love of English women and the difference in culture and attitude towards lingerie (compared with French women who are significantly shyer). I got a chance to chat to the well-known designer and she told me of her SS14 collection, a collection that is meant to contain the essentials that every woman needs - no more than what would fit in a small travel suitcase. Fifi was inspired by the words ‘Bon Voyage’ (Beautiful Travel).

This was the first lingerie event at the store and over 2,000 people wrote to Selfridges requesting to join the party. With a constant flow of champagne, delicious mini-meringues, complimentary hair styling and manicures by Hershesons and The Pain Shop by Nails Inc., I’m not surprised!
