Halloween Make-Up

Hello, readers! Beauty guru Sophie back again. As today is Halloween and a majority of you will be going to some kind of event, I thought I'd do a montage of ideas for products perfect for the spooky season! Obviously, Halloween costumes are fairly personal, and you can be scary, glamorous, or not terribly fussed either. I've tried to pick products to suit all of these scenarios, so let's get started!

As the royalty of more unusual make-up, Illamasqua are quite heavily featured here. I'm not sorry at all, they're fast becoming a favourite make-up brand and I've not found one product that I am yet to dislike - can't be a bad thing, right? Well, apart from for your bank balance. You don't have to go all out, but there are some options here for if you do.

Illamasqua Skin Base in '01' - a white foundation that you can use on its own, or mix in with your current foundation to give yourself a paler skintone. Perfect! It's got excellent coverage too, and if you don't like using face paint then this is a wonderful alternative. Lipstick in 'Pristine' - I actually went to buy this for my own Halloween costume, but they were sold out! Boo. Illamasqua lipsticks have a fantastic formulation, so definitely consider investing. They have some really interesting shades that you can't find anywhere else, too. I ended up buying 'Disciple', which is dark blue! Cream Pigment in 'Hollow' - perfect for paler beauties to contour. It's an ashy taupe colour that's brilliant for chiselling out those cheekbones. Pure Pigment in 'Berber' - a red shimmery wonder, really. I adore their Pure Pigments and I can't wait to add this one to my collection. Use it on the centre of the lips with a black lipstick for a really exciting Halloween lip. Their Eye Shadow in 'Daemon' is another recent addition to my collection - can you tell I'm an addict yet? A scarlet red beauty that will enhance any Halloween look. And finally, the basis for my costume this year: Illamasqua Bat Lash. I saw these and fell instantly in love. So unique; so pretty; so unlike-me. But, its in the spirit of the season, so.

Onto more 'costume' products. Ben Nye and Kryolan are at the forefront of this, and are pretty affordable too. If you're looking to be any kind of monster, the Ben Nye Monster Wheel should be an instant purchase. With a wheel of colours to choose from, you can enhance vampiric eyes, turn yourself into a zombie, or just do a hella lotta contouring. A bit of fake blood is essential at this time of year too, and both have fantastic offerings. Ben Nye even do an Eye Blood if you're really looking to spook someone!

And finally, for those looking to be glamorous, or those of you with a fairly limited comfort zone. A smokey eye is an excellent way to vamp up an ordinary make-up look (excuse the pun, Halloween is getting to me already). This eyeshadow from Bourjois in No. 6 is a perfect drugstore offering for the task, and would be an excellent addition to any smoked out look. Add a bit of MAC Eye Kohl in 'Smoulder' and you're good to go! Another way to step a bit out of your comfort zone is with a dark lip. Now, I'm not saying that you have to be like me and buy a navy blue one, but a dark lip is a staple look for the wintery months anyway. MAC Lipstick in 'Cyber' is the darkest one they do in the permanent collection, so if you're a MAC lipstick fan then head over and purchase immediately! Cyber is very dark, so if you don't think that will be for you, then a lighter, more berry-toned alternative is Rebel, which is a favourite of mine. Add lashings of your favourite mascara and a dark nail colour, and you're ready to hit the room.

I hope you enjoyed my Halloween post and that I gave you some inspiration for the spooky season ahead.

Until next time! Sophie, xo.
