PFW: Maison Martin Margiela

Like so many brands before them, Maison Martin Margeila took to the runway with an androgynous inspired collection. This was, however, no ordinary male-female combination; this was something special.

By combining masculine cuts and tailoring with the spangled sequin bustiers and briefs of a Vegas showgirl, MMM created something truly outstanding.

Featuring a darker colour pallet for spring summer 2014, MMM’s collection featured rich burgundy, black, creams and of course, rainbow coloured mother of pearl style detailing. This unusual colour combination allowed the brand to develop the tradition male influenced collection into something with a beautiful feminine edge.

Additions to their well tailored suiting included bustiers underneath topcoats, and spangled briefs peeking out from low slung mens trousers. Detailing such as this gave the collection a fun and playful edge that has previously been avoided.
