PFW: Balenciaga SS14
Alexander Wang has truly created a unique collection for Balenciaga's ss14 line. From sports luxe to crisp tailoring, this collection explored and showed off the designers sheer talent for creating something simple yet visually stunning. Sticking primarily to black and white, with the slightest coloured accent, or rare deep purple piece, this collection was crisp, clean and simple.
With elements of Wangs love of sports luxe present, running shorts were given a luxury edge through rich, thigh textured fabrics trimmed with mint green or baby pink; subtle enough to add detail to the white fabric.
Experimenting with pattern slightly, Balenciaga's collection used a thick black floral pattern on shorts, dresses and skirts. This pattern was then separated and used as a symmetrical point of detail on carefully tailored jackets.
Sheer fabrics on shirt dresses added a feminine touch that had previously only been hinted at in earlier garments. Waist detailing through tulip peplums emphasised the waist and figure, but teamed with boxy shirts had a more masculine feel.
The simplicity of this collection is what truly gives it it's beauty. This is a collection that everyone can wear, whether dressed up or down.
