LFW: Erdem SS14

Taking a fresh look at spring monochrome, Erdem has beautifully redefined this trend with subtle details, stunning embellishments and lots of sheer fabrics.

With each model in black or white flatforms, the garments were able to show off the sheer glamour of each piece, whilst confirming that these are ready-to-wear pieces, and can be worn very easily, and by anyone.

Erdems’ use of sheer fabric this season is astounding. Tastefully embroidered with beautiful lace panels and intricate details, the sheer black shirtdress is set to be a spring staple. Recreated in white, the lace was repositioned to cover the arms, creating a more glamorous look.

The first few looks, either all in white or all in black were then carefully combined to create elegance, and garments a world away from the traditional stripe or pattern we have previously seen when monochrome looks are designed. Creating texture in this collection was vital, and vastly important when bringing together their colour pallets. Using delicate fringing on leather jackets, contrast feathering on shirt dresses and of course the lace allowed Erdem to give the collection the richness and quality so deserved of the brand.

A tiny pop of colour, a beautiful sunshine yellow, was introduced towards the end of the collection, and featured in the intricate lace embellishments of a stunning black jacket and floor length sheer gown.

This collection was designed to give luxury, yet keeping it wearable was also a key element. Through the use of sheer fabrics, Erdem have allowed the collection to be utterly magnificent on warm spring days, and beautiful enough to still make an impression when teamed with their leather jackets when those days turn breezy.
