Ruby & Ed SS13 Press day

My first assignment for The Upcoming website was to attend the Ruby & Ed SS13 press day. This was my first press day and I was so excited but really nervous at the same time. We've never really been told what a press days like and I didn't know whether to expect a lot of media attention and to feel intimated or whether it would be a relaxed environment where I could get on with what I wanted to find out. The other thing that sparked to mind was what do I wear?! The day was held at the Sanderson hotel on Berners Street near Oxford Circus - Upon arrival, my friend and I were stunned at how breathtaking this hotel was; The plush sofas were in the shape of lips and the lifts had a galaxy theme. 8 floors up to the Penthouse and we entered our first press day. We were surrounded by an array of different designers all with various angles on their SS13 collection. At the back was a huge table full of food and drink for the guests and to the left in a small wing off the room was a beauty parlor where you could get a manicure and makeovers - every girls dream. We were directed to Ruby & Ed where I met the friendliest women ever, so eager to help me with my first article and showing me around the collection. My friend and I made some quick notes, especially on one item of clothing and took beautiful pictures.

On the whole, my first experience was amazing. We both came out feeling so much more comfortable about press days and excited for future events as well as securing the idea that university and fashion journalism was completely the right choice. My choice of outfit was casual and versatile as I knew we'd be walking around all day - I chose my new Luella top, a white peplum Reiss blazer, Reiss black leggings, Moda in Pelle leather biker boots and a black leather Osprey bag.
